Orange, Citrus x sinensis. Painted in a somber winter in Zagreb, on 26th of December 2015 (above). Those below are merrier because they have company.

The illustration below was created by >> Pierre-Antoine Poiteau (1766 - 1854), French botanist, gardener and botanical illustrator. As a botanist, he is credited for discovering and classifying many plants and animals, especially from South America. As a painter, he was very much influenced by the Raphael of flowers, Redoute. Many compare Poiteau to Redoute, but I think that Redoute was much better painter.
