Morning encounter (orchid), 20th of March 2013

Watercolor, 19 cm x 28 cm
Slim student
with eyes of blue water
and extended, quick
step
is very happy this morning.
She smiles and talks to herself,
while the day is still sleepy
and cold.
Somebody must have told her
that she is beautiful.
Antonio Šiber, 1995. ?
The orchids were painted in watercolor and the black background was made in ink. In the digital stage, after scanning,
the variations in the blackness of the ink were suppressed so to obtain uniform background.
UPDATE (2nd of September, 2014.): As a historical example of botanical illustration of orchids I propose a
highly stylized work by >> Ernst Haeckel (below) from
>> Kunstformen der Natur, 1899
(Wikimedia Commons has all 100 pages of Kunstformen, >>
HERE is the link for those interested). I have >> already written about Haeckel in
March 2011. He was one of the most important scientists for the promotion of Darwin's theory, but also one of the most
controversial. To me, he is, of course, particularly interesting as a very skillful illustrator.
