graphene, advanced materials coverpage

A couple of months ago >> Rodney Ruoff contacted me with an idea of proposing one of my images for the cover page of the "Advanced Materials" (Wiley) journal where he intended to publish a review paper. The paper dealt mostly with applications of graphene (Graphene and Graphene Oxide: Synthesis, Properties, and Applications), and the image he was interested into was made quite some time ago for >> my "gallery" on the Nanotech Now web-page. I never particularly liked that image although I heard that it often appears at conferences as an illustration for graphene. I accepted his proposition and I tried to create a new and hopefully somewhat better version of the image for the cover page. I didn't completely made it because the deadline was pretty short. Anyhow, people at Wiley accepted >> my image as the cover page for number 22(35) of the Advanced Materials journal (image above). The designers did the only thing that could be done with this image and that is to use it in the whole area of the cover page.

graphene, detail, sea

I made the image in sufficiently large resolution, so that the details got preserved in such a procedure (see above).

graphite, red-black

Here is also an image of graphite (above). The graphite is made of many layers / planes of graphene. The layers of graphene are alternately colored red and black. Both images (graphene and graphite) were first made in the time when the portal Nanoatlas was active (probably in year 2004).
