Haiku about dead warriors (3rd of April 2013)

swordsman, sea, sky, islands
Ah, summer grasses!
All that remains
Of the warriors' dreams.

(Basho, translated by R.H. Blyth)

There is also a somewhat different English translation of this haiku:

Summer grass:
where the warriors
used to dream

(Basho, translated by Hiroaki Sato)

The precision of the watercolor painting (17 cm x 24 cm) was possible mainly because of a thick enough paper that behaves well when wetted several times (Fabriano, 50 % cotton, 300 g/m2).

Illustration combines "Asian" and "European" elements - the warrior carries a gigantic European sword ornated with gems, and he stands on the hill above > Brna on Korčula island in Croatia. He wears something that looks like a Scottish kilt or a South-Asian >> sarong.
